Betsy DeVos currently sits as the Secretary of Education for America and has had a long and proud history of political and philanthropic endeavors throughout her life as well as her career. Both Betsy and her husband, Dick, have been very active within philanthropic charities especially within the education sector. When the Devos family had children of a school age of their own, they began to examine the educational options. One of the many things she is well known for today is her firm stance on the advocacy for a school voucher system that would then enable children to attend a private school via public funds. Betsy DeVos has also served as the chairwoman of the board for the Alliance for School Choice, the largest program in the United States promoting school choice options. She serves this post until 2016.
Betsy DeVos has also been active within politics throughout her career, having sat as a member of the Michigan Republican Party since 1982. She has also served as a local precinct delegate and has been re-elected 16 consecutive times for a two year term each election. DeVos has also been actively raising political funds, having raised over$150,000 for the re-election campaign for George W. Bush in 2004 and has also hosted fundraising events from her own home.
She has served a broad variety of roles throughout her life and career, including businesswoman. Betsy is the chairwoman of the Windquest Group which is a privately operating and held group that focuses on investment in manufacturing, technologies and clean energy. Her and her husband founded Windquest Group in 1989. She is also among chief investors and board members for Neurocore, a chief member in research and biofeedback therapy for a range of disorders like autism, anxiety, depression and attention deficit disorder and a number of other deeply impacting disorders.
